The presiding judge of the Court of Appeal, Kano Division, Justice Hussein Mukhtar has died in Abuja.
Sources close to the family of the late judge said he died on Saturday morning at the age of 67 after a brief illness. He has since been buried, according to Islamic rites.
The late jurist, who hailed from Katagum in Bauchi State, started his working career at the Bauchi State Judiciary from June 1976 to October 1992.
He was called to the Nigerian bar in 1981 as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
He was a one-time magistrate, secretary of Bauchi State Judicial Service Commission and Chief Registrar of the FCT High Court.
He was also at a time the Chief Registrar of the FCT High Court from 1992 to 1996.
He served as a judge of the FCT High Court from 1996 to 2006 from where he was elevated to the Court of Appeal the same year.
Thereafter, he was appointed as the presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal, Kano Division where he served until his demise.
He was the judge that delivered the judgement at the Court of Appeal in Sokoto which upheld the re-election of Governor Aminu Tambuwal as Sokoto governor in 2019.
