Y. C. Maikyau, SAN Extends Heartfelt Condolences To The Family, Friends And NBA Lagos Branch On Demise Of A Colossus- Alhaji Mikail Adisa Bashua, SAN

Condolence message from Y.C. MAIKYAU, SAN; Chairman, NBA Welfare Committee to the NBA Lagos Branch on the demise of Alhaji Adisa Bashua, CON,SAN.

On behalf of the Welfare Committee of the NBA, my Firm, and my humble self, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and the Lagos Branch of the NBA on the demise of a colossus- Alhaji Mikail Adisa Bashua, SAN.

Born into the illustrious Bashua chieftaincy family of Lagos, Alhaji Bashua redefined himself not by the family fortunes, but through hard work and commitment which saw him called to the English Bar the same year Nigeria got her independence. He branched out to be elected into the Federal House of Representatives for the Lagos Constituency from 1962 to 1964. He returned to his Firm after serving the Country as a Public Servant to build a rebuttable Firm – M.A. Bashua & Co.

Through dint of hard work, Alhaji Bashua attained the enviable status of a Learned Silk and etched himself into our Jurisprudence through remarkable advocacy. Mohammed V. Olawuni remains a locus classicus on the principle of when to seek the leave of Court to Appeal the decision of a Lower Court. He was bestowed with the National Honor of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) by the Federal Government of Nigeria in the year 2008.

The Learned Silk, through his personal and professional life set an enviable standard that many of us will continue to strive to attain.

May the soul of Alhaji Bashua Rest in Peace, and May God bless his family, friends, and the entire Lagos Branch of the NBA.

Y.C. Maikyau, SAN
Chairman, Welfare Committee of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA)
