The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 34-year-old man, Tahamado Demian, for allegedly kidnapping two Catholic priests, Reverend Fathers Abraham Samman of the Jalingo Diocese and Matthew Dusami of the Yola Diocese.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje, and shared on X.com on Saturday night.
According to the statement, the operation to rescue the priests took place in a criminal hideout in Gwaida Malam village, a remote area between Numan and Demsa local government areas. The mission, launched on February 21, 2025, led to the arrest of Demian, who is said to be a member of the same church as the victims.
The police successfully rescued the priests unharmed without any ransom paid. They are currently receiving medical care.
During the operation, security operatives recovered a locally fabricated assault rifle, a handset, and several SIM cards.
The statement emphasized the commitment of the police to protecting lives and property, adding that the suspect is now in custody for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, commended the support received from the government, security agencies, and the public. He urged continued cooperation to enhance security efforts across the state.
He reassured residents that the police would ensure the suspect faces diligent prosecution and pledged a sustained crackdown on criminal activities.
