41-Year-Old Professor, Aisha Maikudi Appointed As UniAbuja Acting VC
The Senate of the University of Abuja has appointed 41-year-old Professor Aisha Maikudi as the institution’s acting Vice Chancellor. Professor Maikudi, a distinguished scholar in International Law, is also the youngest professor of law in Nigeria.
Currently serving as the university’s Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Maikudi’s nomination was announced at the valedictory Senate meeting held on Wednesday. This was confirmed by the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah. Her role as acting VC will be confirmed pending ratification by the Governing Council.
In her acceptance speech, Professor Maikudi expressed her gratitude, saying, “I want to extend my deepest respect and appreciation to you all for the strong support and unwavering commitment that you have accorded me.”
Born on January 31, 1983, Maikudi’s educational journey began at Queens College, Lagos, where she obtained her West African Senior School Certificate. She then graduated with an LLB from the University of Reading in 2004, followed by an LLM from the London School of Economics & Political Science in 2005. She earned her PhD in International Law from the University of Abuja in 2015.
Maikudi joined the University of Abuja on September 4, 2008, as a Lecturer II and rose to the rank of Professor in 2022. She has held several notable positions, including the first female Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law in 2018 and the pioneer Director of the University of Abuja International Centre in 2019.
